Bukhara

Bukhara has a population around 300.000. The city was founded more than 2500 years ago. It was, together with Samarkand and Khiva, one of the educational and commercial centers on the Silk Road, which bound China, India and Europe together.

Bukhara was a Emirate until Russia, after 200 years of trying, finally occupied it in 1868. In 1920 Bukhara became a part of The Soviet Union.

Uzbekistan is today a sovereign state.
